THE ROARING 1920s

I have a visual treat for you this week!
For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with all things Art Deco; my engagement party had a 1920s theme, the wallpaper in my hallway is Art Deco inspired and my jewellery box is full of earrings and rings whose designs are a nod to this era. Most people associate Art Deco with flapper dresses and the like but…
DID YOU KNOW?
If you are anything like me, you will find that visual imagery really helps bring the Art Deco design principles to life. As you can see from my inspiration board below, the patterns are bold and geometrical in style. Even in the examples that use very few colours, these shapes coupled with symmetry make it apparent that the design has been influenced by Art Deco.
Last year, I had a go at creating my own Art Deco inspired patterns, incorporating the line work, symmetry and vibrant colours into the mix (image below). I was quite pleased with the results and had the artwork printed onto greeting cards. I think this design would also make really cool wrapping paper or art prints…what do you think? As always, I would love to hear your thoughts!
